Our History

Boston Commonwealth University (BCU) was founded in 1924 by grassroots educators from the northeastern United States and local Boston entrepreneurs.

1924: The Founding

Established as "Boston Commonwealth College" with a mission to provide affordable education to the working class of Massachusetts.

1957: University Status

After decades of expanding into Nursing and Engineering, the institution officially became Boston Commonwealth University.

2000: The Digital Transition

BCU boldly transitioned to a fully online teaching model, pioneering remote education before the global boom, focusing on "globalization and practical application."

Present: A Global Hub

Today, BCU serves students across 120+ countries, offering 42 undergraduate majors, 16 master's programs, and a growing doctoral roster.
